An International Global Construction survey conducted during 2008 among leading construction contractors around the world, has confirmed certain areas that have already been ranked by Erbacon’s executive management as impacting on the company. These include resource shortages, risk management, escalating costs and sustainability.
The Erbacon Group has dealt with each of these issues with varying degrees of success and aggression during the prior two years. Although each of the above is important, the major achievement came with addressing the sustainability issue – as leadership, sufficiency of critical mass, and BEE were identified as key issues that could impede long-term sustainability. As a consequence, the Civcon/Medu Capital transaction was a substantial deliverable during the year.
The merger with Civcon, the enhancement of the Group’s roads and earthworks capability, together with the attainment of an elevated BEE status, afford Erbacon an increased level of diversification and geographic spread with which to confront the well-documented and immense infrastructural backlog currently prevalent in South Africa and neighbouring territories.
