HEALTH AND SAFETY

Safety

The Group believes in zero harm to its employees and the environment in which they operate. As an employer, Erbacon has a moral obligation to its employees that they can work in a safe environment and return home each day unharmed. Consequently, the Group has increased focus on Health and Safety systems and standards and has adopted certain non-negotiable safety rules against which a zero tolerance discipline is applied.

Management at all levels and functions, from executive to frontline management, are accountable and responsible for Health and Safety, and the Group expects them to lead by example. This is achieved through self-regulation, site and system audits as well as Visible Felt Leadership inspections (which are safety inspections conducted by senior management and site management). Deviations from the Health and Safety systems are immediately highlighted and rectified through the non-conformance system.

As competency is one of the major and most effective controls to mitigate risk, creating awareness and ongoing training is considered of the utmost importance, and continuous training interventions are in place for all levels of employees.

Health

All employees are required to undergo periodic medical monitoring depending on the risk that they may be exposed to. From this it is determined what type of medical monitoring the employee shall be subjected to. Industrial hygiene surveys are conducted periodically to identify stresses and to identify potential health risks that may result. Controls are then developed to mitigate this risk to an acceptable level.
